Chemistry

This week I did some chemistry with Katie we are trying to make CASEIN which is stuff that can make: cottage cheese, thickner for stuff that needs firmed and plastic. We are going to get a bit each to keep.
The first time round it didn't work because we didn't have enough, there wasn't enough fat in the milk which you need . The second time it worked when we used more milk and it was blue top not green!

We needed:
2 cups of full milk ( dark blue top)
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1/4 cup of vinegar
medium sized pot
wooden spoon
measuring cup/spoons
small dish
sieve
lid of container to mold CASEIN on
paper towel

Instructions :
1. From the two cups of milk measure out 2-3 table spoons into a small dish. Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda and mix until there were no lumps.

2.Pour the remaining milk / baking soda mixture to your pot.

3.Heat on a low/ medium heat until the mixture starts to simmer you don't want to boil it.

4. Turn the heat off.

5. Add 1/4 Cup of vinegar and mix at the same time / the mixture will start to thicken .

6.Drain the mixture through a sieve until you are left with the lumpy part only.

7.Place the CASEIN mixture onto your mold to set .

8. To remove excess moisture pat with paper towels.

9. Leave to set overnight.

You have made CASEIN a thickner or plastic that's very hard. Make it your self (mind you it does not taste good by its self).
