Teacher Comment

Hi India.
It was great to get the green light for your mural from Marie and Allana from the Children’s Ward at the hospital.  This gives us plenty to carry on with next week!  You spoke well to both ladies at the hospital, and gave them a clear idea of what you wanted to do.  They were both really impressed with your organisation!  Great to see you contining with your music video today - the editing stage is by far the hardest and most time consuming, but you just got on on did it, which was great to see.  Well done on a really productive day India.  Katie.

Save the world.

Today I saw the saddest thing ever.
You know how everyone is doing an enviromental project, well Darryn showed us a video which explained what humans are doing that are hurting the earth and its inhabitants.
The picture above show a poor little baby turtle( having got plastic stuck in its mouth ) chewing on plastic. Most people  think that when they throw something away its just one can, just one plastic bag ,just one this just one that. But these people are dead wrong. If a very small fish ate plastic it would get sick then a bigger fish would eat the little fish and get sick and so on up the food chain, but who is at the top of the food chain thats right, humans are. Did you know 2.3 percent of the worlds water is fresh water the rest is  either salty or dirty. Turtles are now the closest to extinction group in the world. In some lakes , when the all the fishing boats come in with their nightly catch. They only have one or to fish between them because the rivers have been fished dry. So now do you get my point? REDUCE REUSE AND RECYCLE!!!!

Egg Experiment

Today I made a so EGGcelent parachute. Why would I want to make a parachute I hear you say? Well today in our high interest stations I went to physics with Katie we did an  eggcelent eggsperiment with little eggs in parachutes testing the best material to get the parachutes to float better and save the egg from certain doom doom doom. Amazingly every egg survived. And I got some awesome action shots as I was the chief photographer I got the parachute flying through the air.

 AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

Lightbulb magic!!!!

Today I did some science with Alana, Making light bulbs work!! I know that may sound boring but believe me, it isn't at all.  To make a light bulb , and get it to work you need:
1 small glass jar
1 roll of strong sellotape
1 small bit of toilet roll
1 pair of scissors
8 eveready super heavy duty batteries
lots of pencil lead [ if you are doing this more than once]
1 red alligator clip wire
1 black alligator clip wire
1 small pie tin.

I had a lot of fun trying to get the pencil lead to light up, but my group was better  than any other at making it explode into little tiny lead pieces. We experimented with lots of other different types of leads and different types of batteries and it actually makes a difference. It was the most exciting science ever!!!!!!!!

Mural project!!!!!!!!

Today everyone started doing a project for the environment or for making things better or prettier in Invercargill. I decided on doing a mural with some other kids. I thought of doing a mural for the sick kids in the hospital to help them cheer up and everyone loved the idea . We are hoping to get permission to paint on the wall. But we have a lot to do before we even get to that stage like  asking who owns the hospital ,getting money for paint and even designing the mural and calling an artist to paint it with us. If we don't get permission we are going to try to get permission in places like Herbert St dairy. If we can do the hospital our theme for the mural is what kids like to do or play with like Spiderman or Barbie and for the older kids like Glee and Mr Bean. I really hope we can have permission to paint a mural on the hospital because it will help kids see the brighter side of things.
